When should I fish with the Mrs Simpson?

This graph shows trends of when fly fishermen use the Mrs Simpson to fish with and what hooks are most popular throughout the fly-fishing season.

About the Mrs Simpson Trout Fly

The Mrs Simpson is arguably the most popular of the Killer patterns, and is in the same class as the popular Walker's Killer and Hamill's Killer. It is regarded as a "must have" for fishing the lakes, streams and rivers of New Zealand and South Africa.

The name is said to originate in the era of King Edward VIII, who chose to step down from the throne in order to marry Mrs Simpson; implying that if Mrs Simpson could lure a king away from his throne than a trout would be an easy feat!

Expert Tip:

Although popular in New Zealand, this patterns success is a worldwide phenomena and has a real traditional sense of a classic fly using the beauty of feathers to the full. Knowledgeable UK fly fishermen are fishing it with devastatingly effective on UK waters, it's not just for monster fish!
