About the Alexandra Trout Fly

The Alexandra, or Lady of the Lake, as it was then called, was created some time around 1860. It was re-named in honour of Princess Alexandra and was such a popular and successful pattern that its use was banned on some waters.

It is a very effective pattern that has been successfully bringing fish to the net for over 150 years.

Great in Scottish Lochs, such as Loch Earn where Brown trout and Rainbows are stocked.

Comments from other fly fishermen

This is by far my favourite fly. Fished on a floating line with slow figure of eight retrieve it picksup Rainbows anywhere. I have also had a few good brown trout with this fly. Also tied larger it is great for Sea Trout. - 5 out of 5 Stars by on 11/04/2010

This excellent fly has taken me many wild browns on Highland lochs when stripped back fast along loch margins on a floating line as a single fly. When the going is tough, this little beauty has saved me many a blank. - 5 out of 5 Stars by on 22/01/2013
